Travel Travel Travel!!!

Well I have been trying to get everything done before my flights, I’ve written a lot of pseudo-code for the concepts, “Homana Homana” – (still trying nicknames for my good friend) is making it into some beautiful code in HTML5 for Android, updated browsers, etc so the site will run fast and clean and secure.. Still drawing all the screen-layouts on pads of paper and will be sketching them up on my Wacom4 when I get back from the trip..

The trip!: I’m catching a plane from Moscow to Australia tomorrow at 8:00pm (+4GMT)  flying to China (Beijing) and then onwards to Melbourne, then cross country by train to my home town of Adelaide. This means I’ll be offline until Tuesday.  ”Homanhis” will be working like a furious cat on a lazy dog to get the nice spiffy game engine working. and by next week (fingers crossed) a buggy working version will be online and by Christmas.. bug-free ALPHA!! I hope to spend some AP on you all as a Christmas Present (a.k.a. TO WAR!!!!)

Game Concepts: Tents vs Buildings

So, you might recall an Idea I had about the ‘end game’

In LofL the game reset after a set amount of time, then later I understand the game was Auto reset when a clan reached power 5 million.

The Biggest problem people complained about was having just started, or not being there from the beginning.

Most of this was understood, ok the game will reset, players will start again with more understanding, all cool.

Storyline, I couldn’t fathom its reality.. How does a world ‘reset’?

After much discussion, a friend of mine came up with the idea.. why reset, why not allow your armies to move off and fight new players, while the old players fight on..

I thought about this.. Yes.. After wars are fought, surely peace begins to settle, the larger kingdoms are too powerful for a small warlord to even hope to fight, Large kingdoms start to trade with each other and war becomes unprofitable. Surely this could be introduced into the game.

With Warlords this kind of complexity is not going to work, but the idea occurred that the basics for it could still be implemented. and the Tent Was Born:

The TENT: Players who begin, start with a small war-band with a war-chief. In each of the 7 ‘slots’ a fireplace (squad) may be added, you upgrade the tent through 5 stages, each cheap and mobile, allowing your army to come and go as it pleases.

In Warlords, the tents are a cheap beginning, allowing you to gain +5 – +25 sleeping spaces for your troops while you build up the size, level and training to be able to attack the larger towns to take their cash.

The First Real Building (War-camps don’t count) either the Fortress or Barracks or Walls, Will be the first REAL step to your Castle, BUT you give up some small benefits of being mobile.

In Warlords, you’ll gain the Massive Defence Bonus, Also players may not be able to see your cash (forts, markets and banks will hide some of your cash) but you’ll lose the bonus midnight AP.

In my later expansion (new game title unknown) I have the idea that War-camps will be able to move around the map, allowing players who join to move to other regions and group up with their friends. Larger players may abandon their cities if they so wish.. but it will leave their people defenceless.

Clan Warz

The Concept of Clan Warz is to make a game which will BUILD the groups of races in the game world, The rise of natives in any given region.

In The Larger Game I wanted to have some kind of game which would simulate the ownership of any given region by a race or group of races, Essentially creating the game world.

The Concept: A Land region has small tribes of people living in its caves, its hills, they are cavemen. They eke out an existence, hunting, gathering, making a life for themselves.

Soon enough they encounter another tribe, Are they friendly or hostile? will they fight, or trade?

using the same engine as Warlords, but with significant differences, The Tribe leader chooses what kind of structures should be built, how much energy the tribe puts into finding tools, catching food, preparing skins.

Soon enough the tribes encounter other tribes, If they are friendly tribes, of similar races, they may trade amongst each other, each gaining insight into improving their tribe. But if they are unfriendly, or worse, of opposing alignment races, they will fight. They might raid each others camps, taking food, materials, tools and maybe slaves.

A region can only cope with 1,000 tribes of 50 people per tribe.. so when the tribe gets bigger, it needs to take the space of other tribes.. or move out.

To gain more room, attacking a tribe that cannot survive the next winter will provide more territory, outright killing a tribe may be faster, but the spirits do not look kindly upon the evil tribes.

Tribes can decide to move, pack a % of their belongings and move to a neighbouring region. this might prove to be the best choice when left with a hostile region of opponents.

Soon Enough…

A tribe will decide to make the pact with their neighbours to become a clan, once enough trade has developed this pact becomes solid, and the clan now acts as one tribe for many purposes.

if a Region can claim all the land under One Clan, the Clan has WON the territory, the players claim victory and may choose to play a new tribe in a new region, Pack up a group of settlers from the old clan and move to a new region, or play on in the old region making things better.

Players should elect a King/Lord/Head Chieftain, who can begin to make Kingdom decisions.

Now.. he (and his clan) are entering the next game.. Fantasy kingdoms….

Getting Started

Ok, So that all new players will understand whats going on:

Over the next few weeks I’ll be working on the game engine with my new apprentice Evgenii He’s learning all this web design and will be working on Lords of Legend front end with my guidance while I work on the back-end code design and graphics.

There are some things that need to be fixed before we can open the game page publically

  • Logging on from WordPress(this CMS) should give access to a link to your game account.
  • When a new player creates an account, it should show a sign-in page for new LofL account
  • Only This sites links should work to the game site, To stop spam, botz and other problems you wont be able to bookmark any individual page, It’ll all work from within the efrgames site + the LofL url.

As for Now, I do have the ability to create accounts using your loggin, I just need it to re-direct you to the user screen to finish your LofL account before you can start playing.

In the next few days, all players will get a direct link in their personal mail box in this site to your own account. You’ll need to click the link from the mail, This will allow you to access your Warlords as they are. I’ve put 10 test accounts in the system to attack for cash for testing purposes, I’m hoping to integrate that into the game.

So over the next few weeks my expectations:

  1. Accounts up and running. Players have troops & cash & can attack each other
  2. Mercenary purchase screen
  3. First Building
  4. Warlord stats & level & skill slots (for later)
  5. Major discussion as to the direction of the game

5.1

Do we want this to be a direct copy of LofL? Personally I’d like to make it a bit more interesting, but I was thinking that maybe I’d simple make 2 games.. One as a direct copy, the other as my own invention.

Opinions?
